Amazon.com Product Description

Experience the freedom of on-the-go email, instant messaging and web browsing with the Samsung Highlight for T-Mobile, which features a full touch-screen display, 3-megapixel camera with video capture, music player, and MicroSD slot for up to 16 GB of removable memory. It comes fully equipped with a virtual, landscape QWERTY touchpad and multiple messaging options, including built-in support for email and instant messaging, as well as text and multimedia messaging.

The 3G-enabled Samsung Highlight features a 3-inch touchscreen with auto-rotation and a virtual QWERTY keyboard.
The phone supports T-Mobile's HSDPA 3G network (in select markets), which provides fast web downloads and multimedia messaging, and it will also keep you connected to your closest friends and family members with T-Mobiles myFaves. Other features include Assisted GPS (a-GPS) for location services, Bluetooth for handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, full HTML web browsing with RSS reader, personal organizer tools (including tasks and memo), voice-activated functions, and up to 6.5 hours of talk time.

T-Mobile Services
The Samsung Highlight operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and is compatible with T-Mobile's UMTS/HSDPA 3G network, which operates on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. This phone is designed to automatically connect to the best available network (3G or GSM/GPRS/EDGE) to provide faster data speeds when accessing the Web or downloading content from the T-Mobile Web2go content portal. T-Mobile is currently rolling out its 3G network, and it expects by year's end that its high-speed data network will be available in those cities where a majority of its subscribers currently use data services.

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

While this phone is optimized for use with T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network, many of its functions will also work well on the moderate-speed EDGE network. If you plan to access the Internet extensively on your phone, 3G network coverage may serve you best.

Activities that work well on EDGE or 3G networks:

  • Email, instant messaging, and texting
  • Downloading ringtones, CallerTunes, wallpaper, light data files
  • Sending photographs via e-mail or picture messaging
Activities that work best on a 3G network:
  • Viewing content-heavy websites (lots of images or videos playing)
  • Viewing YouTube and other video files (they will play on EDGE, but require loading time)
  • Uploading large files (photos, videos, presentations) to sharing websites
  • Downloading large files from an e-mail or a website

It's compatible with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves from T-Mobile.

Other features include a 3-megapixel camera, GPS location services, Bluetooth for optional stereo headsets, and MicroSD expansion to 16 GB.
T-Mobile's web2go intuitive web browsing service makes it easy to view and navigate the web from your phone with features including Yahoo! oneSearch, a customizable home page and a simplified shopping and download experience. You can create a personalized home page for easy, one-click access to your favorite Web sites.

With access to the web2go marketplace included at no additional charge, you can also browse and purchase the latest ringtones, games, wallpaper and mobile optimized applications and services to customize their phone. Providing access to the latest news, information and content, Yahoo! oneSearch intuitively returns results grouped around your intended search. 3.0 out of 5 stars One major flaw ruins this phone, August 14, 2009

This review is from: Samsung Highlight t749 Phone, Fire Orange/Red (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I had this phone for about 2 weeks now and I've began to notice one major flaw that completely ruins this phone. That major flaw would be DROPPED CALLS. I would estimate about 10 to 20% of the calls I have made dropped. And many of those times I wouldn't even know the call was dropped until the person on the other end wouldn't respond. When the call drops, the screen does not even turn on. It kinda just resets. You would have to unlock the phone again and see the home screen.

I live in San Francisco, so I doubt it's the area I'm in. I've had many cells phones in the past, and never really had this problem before. With this phone, it really becomes troublesome having a call dropped every so often. And it wasn't like I was going through a tunnel. That being said, this is a really nice phone. It was great features, a bright responsive screen, simple controls and navigation, and really good battery life. For me, dropped calls completely ruins the phone for me. I'll go back to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great web-phone for the non-snobs..., January 5, 2010

Hmm, smartphone, dumbphone, what's the difference? This phone can email, text, get RSS feeds, browse web, etc. etc. Runs any/all mobile websites + can run Mini Opera.

Big plus: only requires T-Mobile's $10/month dataplan. Yes, the snobs may lust over their "smartphones", but they also have to shell out $200 more per year for their dataplan. What's so "smart" about that?

CONCLUSION: A great phone if you want to be connected and email-enabled on the go. Works great on $10/mo dataplan, quick response w/ pretty much any mobile website out there. Great (relatively) cheap phone to hold you over while newer/greater smartphones are introduced in 2010.

4 STARS: hey, nothings perfect. No flash on the camera. Can't turn keytones off unless in silent mode. Headphone jack is proprietary.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of a phone for the younger set, February 12, 2010

This review is from: Samsung Highlight t749 Phone, Fire Orange/Red (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
In an effort to save money, I ordered this phone when I renewed my contract with T-Mobile. I had been using a Blackberry Curve for some time now, but the discounted data plan I got with the phone originally no longer existed, so all the bells and whistles it would cost me nearly $35 in comparison to the $20 I had been paying along with my calling plan and text messaging services. With the Samsung Highlight, access to the web only costs $10 and so does the unlimited texting. With it being a touch phone, I was intrigued by it, so I decided to give it a try. Also financially, I came out of it pretty well.

However, using the Highlight turned out to be more frustrating than anything. First and foremost, texting is a pain in the neck. The phone is not very large; it's a junior version of Samsung's Behold. This particular phone must've been designed with a child's hands in mind because each time I attempt to send a text, I end up tapping a different key. My hands are relatively... Read more
